FronteraFest 2003

Theatre from the Edge

"The fringe theater event of the Southwest!"
-Austin American Statesman

It's our tenth anniversary season, and we're feeling dangerous. The Short Fringe, the Long Fringe, BYOV, or Mi Casa--as always, FronteraFest is five weeks of alternative, offbeat, new, and just plain off-the-wall fringe theatre. Shake off the holiday blues and help us celebrate ten years of art that's alive, high-energy, and always completely unexpected.

For up-to-the-minute information on all aspects of FronteraFest, check the Hyde Park Theatre calendar --just click any event on the calendar for a full description. Or call the reservation line at 479-PLAY.

The Short Fringe
January 14 - February 15 at Hyde Park Theatre

Every night see a new bill of four or five plays no longer than 25 minutes each at the Hyde Park Theatre. Count on anything from works in progress by daring new playwrights to comedy improv to cabaret singers to avant-garde dance pieces. Every Saturday night is a juried "Best of the Week" performance, and the last week, February 11-15, is the juried "Best of the Fest"--with a few wild cards thrown in. Click "FronteraFest Short Fringe" on any date on our calendar to see what's playing for the Short Fringe that night. Or look over the whole schedule and get a taste of what's in store.

Tickets during the regular run are $10 on Tuesdays through Fridays and $12 on Saturdays. During Best of the Fest week, tickets are $12 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and $15 Friday and Saturday. Make reservations by calling 479-PLAY (479-7529). The Hyde Park Theatre is located at 511 West 43rd Street--that's just off Guadalupe in the Hyde Park neighborhood north of the University of Texas campus.

The Long Fringe
January 21-February 2 at the Blue Theater

Eleven longer productions (90 minutes or less) at the Blue Theatre: everything from new works by emerging playwrights to cutting edge choreography. Check our Long Fringe schedule for the plays, dates, and times, or click any Long Fringe event on our calendar for a full description. Each play gets four performances.

Ticket prices vary by show. Make reservations by calling 479-PLAY (479-7529). The very groovy Blue Theatre, 916 Springdale Road, is easy to find and just minutes from downtown! Head east on 7th Street past I-35. Once you've crossed Pleasant Valley, the next light is Springdale. Take a left onto Springdale and look to your left for the Goodwil sign. As soon as you cross over the railroad tracks, take a left into the complex of Goodwill warehouses and head toward the THEATRE sign at the back. Or check out this map.

Mi Casa Es Su Teatro

This uniquely Austin event will feature amazing juggling antics, sidesplitting humor and a parade of tricks and stunts that, from early childhood, you've been told NOT to do in the house.

It's every landlord's nightmare!
